Physically scrub and flush with a light pressure wash of the unit and apply with anti-bacterial, antifungal treatment. Place the covers back on and test. Inspect the outside unit and flush the coil if requires and inspect the condition of the copper pipe insulation, and can replace if required. Filters need to be cleaned at least once every 6 months and the unit requires a full clean every 12 months to maintain air and unit hygiene, reduce energy costs and help maintain the air con unit.
